SIME s.r.l. carries out drilling processing

Drilling is a chip removal process that enables drilling using a rotating and axially shifting tool called a drill bit.

Holes of very small diameters, and hole depths of up to 40 times the diameter, can be obtained. The quality of the holes obtained depends on a series of variables, such as forward speed rate, material and hole depth; due to the difficulty of obtaining surfaces with a high level of finish, in some conditions, a subsequent reaming or boring cycle is required to achieve the required tolerances.

The drilling process makes it possible to carry out the following types of holes:

  • Cylindrical through hole: the hole has a cylindrical shape and passes through the material completely
  • Cylindrical blind hole: the hole has a cylindrical shape but does not pass through the material completely
  • Countersunk: at the opening of the hole there is a small tapered section
  • With counterbore: a larger diameter section of the hole is made at the opening hole to house the head of a bolt
  • Tapered: the walls of the hole are angled
  • Multiple profiles: special machining that allows users to obtain, in one single operation, a hole with sections of different diameters, type and low roughness sections with special tools that we design and have manufactured by our outsourced partners
